The 2013 book, Excerpts of Civil War Correspondence of John & William Jubb of Westford, Massachusetts, 1861-1865, published by the J.V. Fletcher Library of Westford, MA.

Letters Written Home from the War

In letters written to his family at home, William Jubb described his regiment’s movements and engagements during his service in the Civil War. He gave vivid descriptions of the countryside and of his soldier’s life.  His brother, John, also wrote letters home before he died in 1862.

We are fortunate that many of the brothers’ letters were saved and eventually donated to the J.V. Fletcher Library in Westford, MA. In 2013 the library had the letters transcribed and published into a spiral bound book, “Excerpts of Civil War Correspondence of John & William Jubb of Westford, Massachusetts, 1861–1865.” The book was featured in a Westford Reads program commemorating the Civil War and especially honored William and John Jubb. Through these letters we can track William’s travel from Massachusetts until his capture and imprisonment in Georgia, and we can get a glimpse into the conditions under which he lived during the war.
